Hotel Review: Moxy Karlsruhe by Marriott Bonvoy, Germany
Disclosure: We recently stayed at Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe as part of a hosted collaboration. As always, this review reflects our honest personal experience and impressions during our stay. We only share places we genuinely enjoy and believe could help inspire other travelers planning a memorable trip.
And now let’s start with the good stuff! During our recent travels through southern Germany, my husband and I stayed 2 nights at Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe. Honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite hotels to stay and relax.
It’s such a playful atmosphere, but at the same time very modern and unexpectedly spacious rooms for such an affordable price. Also free parking, Happy hour at the bar, and many other things make this hotel a perfect place for budget-travelers to the Baden-Wรผrttemberg region.
Mini Review: In General, we were surprised by the convenience and comfort level of the hotel. Also it’s a colorful and lively atmosphere with great staff. It’s definitely worth the price and is a fantastic Karlsruhe hotel to stay with family as well. Let’s dive in!
First Impressions: It’s so much fun to stay here
So the moment you walk into the lobby, you realize that Hotel Moxy doesn’t feel like a typical hotel. Instead of a formal reception are, the check-in desk is actually at the bar. This was our first stay at Moxy hotels in general, so was very surprising.
Honestly it gives you a kind of party, relaxed and less corporate feeling with lots of games and sport options around you. The lobby area is definitely one of my favorite parts, and we almost lived there.
There is a cozy lounge area with a kind of Bar lighting atmosphere on the left side, while you’ll see a huge table with wooden chars on the other side for the breakfast/lunch/dinner area. Also pink is definitely the color here. I would say the style of the hotel is a modern industrial style that feels trendy but still cozy.

Location: 4.8/5
Although Karlsruhe is one of my favorite cities in Germany because of it’s breathtaking hikes and nature, but it’s definitely one of the most underrated cities too. This fairytale city is located in Baden-Wรผrttemberg region very close to France. That’s why we always do our stop in Karlsruhe, when driving to France.

Also it’s only 2 hours drive from the famous Black forest in Germany, which is definitely one of our favorite destinations in the region. Moxy Karlsruhe is located around 10 minutes ride from the old town of Karlsruhe, and that’s why I gave it a 4.8. But honestly we loved the location, as you’re away from the downtown traffic.
How to reach the Karlsruhe Downtown from the Hotel
You can just get the tram which is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel and in 10 minutes you’re at the city center. You can even walk there, but it’s around 40 minutes walk. Also you can easily drive with your car to the city, as there are lots of parking in the Old City of Karlsruhe.
What is around Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe
This beautiful hotel is located in the heart of a residential area, which is very quite. Aldi Supermarket is in front of the hotel and DM (Drugstore) is only 2 minutes walk from the hotel. If you’re more into quite place with less Old Town traffic to wake up with bird’s chirping, that’s the right hotel for you.
Also Karlsruhe palace is one of the most beautiful Palaces in Germany, which is located next to the Karlsruhe Botanical Garden in downtown. It’s definitely a must-visit place, but at the moment is under construction. Please check the official Website for more details. Here is the link.
Lobby and Check-in Experience: 5/5
If I could, I would give it a 6 out of 5, because the lobby was so entertaining and also the Staff are amazing and very friendly. When we arrived at Moxy Karlsruhe, the first thing we noticed was how different the atmosphere felt compared to a traditional hotel.
Although I realized later that this is the signature of Moxy hotels worldwide that everything is happening directly at the bar. The lobby is full of different seating areas with different styles. Also very playful and colorful details for the decoration.
The Check-in was quick and fast. Also English communication was easy. Honestly it’s one of those hotel lobbies that you want to spend some time to see what else you can find there, before going to your room. And that was exactly what we did. The lobby is also offering:
- A coworking Space with plugins for the Laptops
- A cozy lounge area for the guests
- A game room with different games for kids or adults
- A cool Bar with happy hour, offering snacks as well
- The Breakfast area, which is designed like a Market and we really loved it.
Rooms at Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe: 5/5
We’ve had the standard double room and I must say I was surprised by the design and the size of the room. Although the hotels in Europe are normally offering less space (specially the budget-hotels), but the rooms at Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe offers space and comfort.
The bed was cozy and comfortable with enough pillows. Also the bathroom is very stylish and has a walk-in shower and hair dryer. Also we enjoyed watching TV at night and it also has enough USB charging ports, which is a must for us as content creators.
The Wi-Fi was pretty fast and although there is no in-room safe, but there are safe blocks in the lobby that you can use. The room was clean with a playful design and really felt quiet at night despite the social atmosphere downstairs. There were 2 big windows that opened to the courtyard and offered a fantastic view during sunset.
Note: We gave this room 5/5, although it has no fridge and no in-room safe, because most of the budget-hotels in this category in Germany do not offer them either. But comparing to the other hotels, the room is very spacious and modern, with fantastic bed and washroom facilities.
Service 5/5
Well, for us service is quite important, because even if the whole hotel is fantastic, but has a bad service, it can ruin your trip. And I must say that we had a very positive experience at Moxy Karlsruhe.
From check-in to Bar staff and check-out, they were all amazing and like a family hotel. You really don’t feel that this is actually a Marriot Bonvoy hotel, but it’s more like a cute, colorful family business.
Housekeeping was fantastic and you can tell them the night before, if you want your room to be cleaned or not. Also the bar staff were very friendly and created a fantastic social atmosphere in the lobby.
Dinning at Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe: 4.5/5
Let’s start with the breakfast. I loved the atmosphere how they built it like a market and it i included in your room price. Although Moxy Hotel is not a luxury dining hotel, but the breakfast overall was more than what we’ve expected.
We really enjoyed the breakfast and the bread was so delicious and fresh. We had a full breakfast, so didn’t need lunch. There’s fresh omelet, pastries, fruits, sausages, different cheese, fantastic coffee, yoghurt, and also healthy options or even vegan.
Bar and Snacks
We also loved the cocktails and specially the espresso Martini was fantastic. Also you can have different kinds of Beers, sit outside and just enjoy the atmosphere. The hotel also offers some snacks, if you’re hungry and want to grab something. So overall, we loved the relaxed breakfast and the bar.
Note: There is a happy hour everyday for the cocktails and our favorite on the snack menu is the flatbread pizza. Also the hotel offers grab-and-go food with a microwave to warm it up.
Facilities: 5/5
The facilities and entertainment options at the Hotel Moxy are honestly like a resort. Ok, there’s no pool, but there’s a ping pong table, an interactive room, a big fitness room and a game room. It’s definitely a good option for the family stays in Karlsruhe.
The fitness center has a window which is very important for me and offers a lot for a small hotel. Also the working space is a fantastic area to plug -in your laptop and work quietly.
Also we loved the ping pong area and it offers a huge space for interactive meetings, as well as table football, darts and so many other board games like Uno, Cards, Monopoly and so on.
Style of Moxy Hotel Karlsruhe: 5/5
If you’re into modern, colorful, surprising and warm, this is a great hotel for you. You can feel a combination of cute but industrial-style interiors with warm lighting and a bit of a dark notes in the whole area of the lobby and the rooms.
At the same time with simple concepts, they sometimes, made creative areas, that awakes your curiosity the whole time. Most of the signals and path-ways are hand-written and you can see some creative paintings all over the place, which makes it very welcoming.

You will be surprised how much this hotel has to offer with only $100 per night. And honestly the style, the lobby, the facilities, the rooms and the parking are already high values.
We absolutely loved the Hotel Moxy Karlsruhe and it is easy to see why they are ranked as one of the top hotels in the region. We are already talking about how we can go back again soon.
