If I had to name a paradise on earth, I would chose the Amalfi Coast. After traveling to more than 50 countries around the world, I still haven’t seen such beautiful, dreamy destination. That’s why we love to go back there again and again and tried so many amazing Hotels in Amalfi Coast.
Amalfi Coast is located in southern Italy along the blue Mediterranean waters and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the Coast there are different towns and small villages and each one has a completely different Character.
Pro Tip: Hotels in Amalfi Coast sells out very fast, as they are mostly small with limited number of rooms. We highly recommend to book at least 9-6 months in advance. We’re normally booking hotels last minute, but Amalfi is a different story.

The most important towns at the Amalfi Coast are Positano, Amalfi Town, Ravello, Praiano, Maiori and Atrani. Positano is the home to the most expensive hotels in Amalfi Coast, while Maiori and Atrani can offer a budget-friendly option for just a 30 minutes drive away.
Note: Although the whole area is called Amalfi Coast, there is also a town called Amalfi town, which we will talk about it as well.

Best Areas to Stay on the Amalfi Coast
1. Positano : The Most Scenic town in Amalfi
If you’re traveling from Naples, Rome or Sorrento to Amalfi Coast, the first city you’ll arrive is the Positano. Also you have to prepare yourself for the most beautiful and unbelievable views, you’ve ever seen in your life. Also Check our post about how to get from Rome to Amalfi Cost, if that’s your plan.
Positano is also the most beautiful and colorful town along the Amalfi Coast and therefore home to some of the best luxury hotels in Amalfi Italy. Even the shops are more expensive than anywhere else along the coast.
But the views are really worth it and if you are a luxury-traveler and your budget allows you, I would definitely go for it. We stayed in Positano as a first-time visitor long ago and we really enjoyed it, but as said it can be quite expensive.

# Best Hotels in Positano
1. Luxury: Le Sirenuse Amalfi Coast Italy
This beautiful hotel is located in the heart of the cliffs and is one of those colorful buildings, you’ll see on every post card of Positano. Also it’s one of the most luxurious hotels in Amalfi Coast Italy with a Michelin-Starred restaurant called La Sponda with a stunning view.
Since this hotel is located at the heights, it’s one of the best hotels with view in the Amalfi Coast to enjoy the Mediterranean sea. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very special as this is a once-in-a-lifetime stay in Amalfi Coast.
Pros and Cons of Staying at Le Sirenuse Positano
Although it’s a very expensive, it’s definitely worth it to at least stay for the first night there. No wonder it’s often fully booked, because of it’s excellent location. We loved our room as it was quite spacious and we’ve had the Classic Double room with Sea view and Balcony, as you see below.
Hotel Le Sirenuse Positano
Honestly we booked this hotel with our points, so didn’t have to pay a lot. But the prices for the rooms are starting from $1500/night and are almost always sold out, so you need to book early.
Prices can be even up to $4000/night during the summer months, so we went there at the end of September.
The only cons I could say, is that it doesn’t have an access to the private beach. But this is normal in Positano, as the town is generally built higher than the sea level. But it’s just a 10 minutes walking down the stairs to the main beach of Positano called Spiaggia Grande). Pro Tip: Amalfi Coast is in general very hilly and most of the hotels are built higher than the coastal level. There are always stairs to walk down to the beaches. If that’s difficult for you and want to be at the sea level, the best place to stay in Maiori at the Amalfi Coast. (see below)
2. Mid-Range: Residence Villa Yiara (adults only)
I know that $600/night could be a luxury hotel category somewhere else, but in Positano Amalfi, it’s a mid-range. And that’s what we paid for our Deluxe double Room with Sea view at the Hotel Villa Yiara in Positano.
This beautiful, charming residence is one of the few mid-range accommodations in Positano and we really enjoyed our stay there. The view from our terrace was stunning and the price is definitely worth it. Also our room was spacious with a fantastic breakfast.
Pros and Cons of Staying at Villa Yiara Positano
What we loved about this charming family-run hotel was that the staff are so helpful and nice. We really enjoyed our stay and we highly recommend this affordable hotel in Positano. Also it’s just a step away from the Positano’s pedestrian area and only 10 minutes walk to the Spiaggia Grande (Positano’s main beach).
Villa Yiara Positano
Also it’s a kind of B&B style, so your breakfast will be served in your room, which we found it actually amazing.
This is absolutely one of our most favorite hotels in Amalfi Coast with view and charm. Rooms are also spacious and some rooms have a Hot Tube.

The only cons I could say is that it’s an adult-only hotel. So as a Family with kids, you can’t book this hotel.
3. Affordable: Hotel Pupetto with Private Beach
This was really a great find for us, as it’s directly located at the Fornillo beach and very affordable comparing to the other hotels in Positano. So if you’re looking for a budget hotel with a private-beach in Amalfi, this is a great option.
Fornillo Beach is definitely quieter than the Spiaggia beach and I find it more scenic. So we really enjoyed our stay and the only downside might be that you need to walk down the stairs about 15 minutes to reach the hotels. So wear comfortable shoes and it’s not appropriate for big-luggage travelers. (this is normal in Amalfi)
This is one of our favorite stays in Amalfi and we highly recommend it. Once you reach the hotel, it’s comfortable and one of the best hotels in Amalfi Coast for family stays. Also it’s just 5 minutes walk to Positano’s city center. See the rooms and book here!
Hotel Puppetto Positano
We booked the Quadruple Room with Sea view and the view was breathtaking as it’s in front of the beach.
You also don’t need to walk down 1000 of steps, as the beach is right in front of the hotel.

2. Amalfi Town: Historic and Scenic
If you’re driving from the northern Italy, the next town you’ll reach after Positano is the Amalfi Town. It’s definitely built closer to the coast as in Positano and we really love the kind of simplicity and white buildings there.
We find it very practical to stay in Amalfi town because its the main transportation hub in the coast. With that being said, you have ferries to Capri, Sorrento and other cities. Also you can get the buses to go to other towns like Ravello and other small towns along the coast.
As photographers, we love Amalfi town for it’s picturesque views and stunning cliffs. The city also offers a mix of history and authentic Italian life, which is rare along the Amalfi Coast. So don’t forget to visit the beautiful Cathedral of Amalfi Town.
Pros and Cons of Staying in Amalfi Town
Actually I can’t find anything negative about staying in Amalfi Town, so it’s only positive and we highly recommend it. Specially as a first-time visitor to Amalfi Coast, Amalfi Town is good accessible and is definitely flatter than Positano or Ravello.

- The City Center can be very crowded during the High-Season and at the Day time, due to the Cruise and Ferry Traffic.
# Top Hotels in Amalfi Town
1. Luxury: Hotel Miramalfi
This is the most viral hotel in Instagram and is one of the most luxurious hotels in Amalfi Coast Italy. This scenic hotel is located on a cliff and honestly you don’t even want to leave the hotel. The Views are jaw-dropping and the pool made within the cliff is a true hidden gem.
We paid $1500 for the cheapest room last year in Ocotber and we booked 7 months in advance. But it’s totally worth it and is a great place for a romantic getaway in Amalfi Coast or honeymooners.
We had the Superior Double Room with sea view and the view was fantastic. Also the interior is modern with a touch of authentic Italian style. You can see the availability and prices here!
Pros and Cons of Staying at Hotel Miramalfi
What I loved about this hotel, is it’s breathtaking view, the pool and it’s different sun terraces. Also they have a private beach with an elevator, so you don’t need to walk down the stairs. With that being said, it’s a true luxury.
The only downside of this hotel, is that the location is not central, so you can’t walk to the city. But there’s a free shuttle service to Amalfi historic center. But if you like to walk everywhere, this is not the right hotel for you.
I also must say that the room decor is a bit dated and not as luxurious as you might expect. But the pool and the beach and it’s scenic location is definitely worth it. It’s more for travelers who want to relax and enjoy the view.
Miramalfi Hotel
If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Amalfi Coast, we highly recommend the Miramalfi Hotel. Book early, as they sells out fast.
Some of the facilities of the hotel are pools, sun terraces, private beach with elevator, gym with a sea view, bars and so much more.
2. Mid-Range: Hotel Marina Riviera Amalfi Town
What we love about Hotel Marina Riviera is that the rooms are spacious and it’s just a 5 minutes walk to the city center. Also it’s directly on the beach with a small pool and sun terrace overlooking the Sea.
We love this hotel for longer stays in Amalfi Coast, as you really feel comfortable there. Also it’s very accessible and best located. Also the interior of the hotel is modern and elegant. We really enjoy staying there and go back there often.
We booked the Double Room with Sea view last year for $550/night in May, but the prices in summer months can be around $900/night. The location is fantastic and you’re right in front of the beach. Check the Availability Here!
Pros and Cons of staying at the Hotel Marina Riviera
What I love about this hotel, is that it has a prime central location. You’re just a step away from the town of Amalfi and the beach is at your footsteps. You can also enjoy the view of the cliffs and the sea without breaking the bank.
The rooms are modern and clean. You really need to book early in the peak season, as the the rooms with the sea view will sell out very fast. It’s a great choice for all kinds of travelers and also a great hotel in Amalfi Coast with kids and family. We normally book 9 months in advance. Check the availability and prices here!
3. Affordable: Hotel la Bussola
Another one of our Favorite hotels in Amalfi town is the Hotel La Bussola. Also this comfortable hotel is located at the beach with an access to local beaches at Amalfi Coast. Also it’s very close to the Ferry station, if you like to travel around and visit Capri, Positano or Sorrento.
It also has rooms with a sea view or village view, but they sell out fast. We had the double room with partial sea view, but still we loved the view and honestly we were mostly at the beach. The only downside of this hotel, is that the minimum booking is for 3 nights, so it’s not appropriate for a short stay.
We booked our room for $300/night in July during the high season, which is a fantastic price. But we booked 6 months in advance with a free cancelation option. Since we’re mostly traveling to Amalfi Coast by car, this hotel is very convenient as it has a private parking. Check the Availability and Prices Here.
3.Ravello: A Quit Paradise to Relax
Although Positano is very picturesque and instagrammable, but if you love it green and quit, you’ll love Ravello more. As you can see above, it’s a true paradise on earth and we stay there very often to hike, relax and do photography.
Ravello is located higher above the hills, so the panoramic view of Mediterranean sea is breathtaking. Also this small town with around 3000 residents is a UNESCO world Heritage Site. So we recommend that even if you don’t stay there, take a Day-Trip from Amalfi Town to Ravello.
Also Ravello is a bit cheaper than Positano and Amalfi Town with less crowd. We love to stay in Ravello. Also there are several Gardens and Palaces like Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone that you can’t miss during your visit.
Pros and Cons of Staying in Ravello
Pros
- The Views are Jaw-dropping, specially from the gardens.
- Unlike Positano and Amalfi, Ravello is more quite and relaxed.
- We also love the scenic hiking trails in Ravello.
- The restaurants are excellent in Ravello with a much better quality.
Cons
- No Beaches in Walking Distance. You’ll need to get a bus or taxi to go to the beach.
- No Direct Ferry access, You need to go to Amalfi and get the bus or taxi to reach Ravello.
- Less Nightlife options than Positano and Amalfi.
# Amazing Hotels in Ravello
1. Ultra- Luxury: Belmond Caruso Hotel
The reason I call this hotel ultra-luxury is that it’s really an exceptional experience, we’ve had there. It’s not just a normal luxury feeling, we really felt very special during our stay. So the price is really worth it.
Hotel Belmond Caruso Ravello is definitely one of the Top hotels in Amalfi Coast (if not the best). The whole building is from 11th century but completely renovated with a fantastic sea-view pool and different gardens. The hotel has different gardens overlooking the sea.
Also we could travel around with a complimentary boat tour along the coast and a free shuttle to Amalfi and Positano. But prices in summer can go up to $5000 per night. We visited Ravello for hiking in April and paid $1500 for a Superior Junior Suite with Garden and Sea View. It was Heaven and we definitely go back! Book Here.
Pros and Cons of Staying at the Hotel Belmond Caruso
It’s really hard to find a cons for such a beautiful hotel, because it’s all pros and we love this hotel. But if you want to be directly at the beach within a walking distance, Ravello in general won’t be the right place for you. Although the pool itself with a tremendous panoramic view is absolutely satisfying.
Also this hotel is the best option for special occasions like anniversaries, romantic stays and honeymoons. Also another cons is the high price of the rooms and the restaurant during the summer months up to $5000/ night.
Although the rooms are beautiful, but it’s not a modern interior. In general we recommend it for the shoulder seasons, where the prices are more reasonable and anyway you can’t really use the beach. We also went there in April. Check the Availability and Prices here!
2. Mid-Range: Palazzo Confalone
This is a charming boutique hotel and the building itself looks like a palace with beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea. I really love to stay in old palaces and historic places, so if this is your vibe, then you’ll really enjoy your stay.
What we loved about hotel Palazzo Confalone was the fantastic staff and I think they have the most picturesque gardens and terrace areas in Ravello. Also the price was fantastic. We paid $500/night in June during the high-season, which is almost impossible to find this price in Amalfi or Positano at that time.
We booked the Double Room with Garden view and spa tub in the Patio. The view is breathtaking. But you should know that this is not a beach hotel and you’ll need a taxi to go to the beach. Also there’s no pool or gym in the hotel. Check the availability and prices here!

The Road on the Amalfi Coast are narrow and a bit different.
Where To Stay In Amalfi Coast on a Budget
We know that during the last 10 years, the prices of the Hotels in Amalfi Coast went up unrealistically. The first time, I visited Amalfi was around 17 years ago and I booked a beautiful hotel in Amalfi Coast with a private beach for only 70 Euros per night. But those times are over, unless you go a bit further to the south.
And that’s the part we’ll talk about it in this part. Honestly till last 2 year, we always stayed at Amalfi town or Positano and Ravello. But in the last 2 years, as the prices went up even more, we started to try the new towns and we quite loved it.
Because Amalfi Coast is small and you can easily travel from Maiori (almost the last town in Amalfi Coast) to Positano (almost the first town in Amalfi Coast) in less than an hour. So it doesn’t matter where you stay, you can easily travel around with tours, buses or a rental car.
Pro Tip: We even stayed 3 days in Sorrento last year in September and we could easily visit Amalfi Coast everyday, without paying a lot of money. As Sorrento or Naples are much cheaper than the Amalfi Coast. Check our post about Sorrento to find out more!
1. Praiano: Authentic and Relax
Praiano is the best place to have seafood in an authentic Italian atmosphere. it’s located between Positano and Amalfi (20 min. from each) and we say the best sunset of Amalfi Coast region in Praiano. Also if you’re a historic-lover like us, you can visit many churches like the Church of San Gennaro with it’s beautiful Dome.
It’s a very picturesque city and we definitely recommend to stay there. Also if you’re a hiker, you should take the famous path of the Gods hike (Sentiero degli Dei). Although I’m not a big hiker, but I didn’t even feel the path because of the breathtaking views.
Pros and Cons of Staying in Praiano
Pros
- We highly recommend to stay in Praiano if your budget is limited, it’s a beautiful place and very close to Positano and Amalfi Town.
- Best Sunset in Amalfi Coast, Local and Authentic vibes with best restaurants.
- Much cheaper than the famous towns along the Amalfi Coast.
- Home to Affordable, Budget hotels in Amalfi Coast.
Cons
- The beaches are smaller than in the bigger cities along the Amalfi Coast, but there are fewer tourists as well.
- No Ferries, but easy access to Amalfi Town (20 min. with bus/taxi) to get the ferry.
- The whole town is full of steep stairways, which is beautiful, but might be difficult for some travelers.

1. Luxury: Grand Hotel Tritone
If this hotel was located in Amalfi town or Positano, I’m sure we had to pay over $3000/night. But since it’s in the small town or Praiano, it’s much cheaper and is actually a luxury hotel. We booked this hotel because of the exceptional reviews, and that’s so true.
You have everything you need for a fantastic price. Grand Hotel Tritone has a private beach, a beautiful outdoor pool with sea-view, fantastic rooms with balconies and a great restaurant. Also there’s an elevator to go down to the beach.
Also Hotel buses will take you daily to Positano in less than 10 minutes. We’ll definitely go back there again. We booked the room Superior double Room with Sea view and Balcony for $1000/night in July (high-season). Check the Prices and availability here!
2. Mid-Range Hotel Margherita Praiano
Hotel Margherita was a great value for a hotel in Amalfi Coast with scenic view. We loved the panoramic sea-view this beautiful boutique hotel offers for a fair prices. Also it has an outdoor pool.
We booked the Sea-View double Room with balcony in July for only $500 which is a fantastic price for a high-season hotel in Amalfi Coast. You can also get a complimentary shuttle bus to go to the beach and the city center of Praiano, where you can take the bus to Positano or Amalfi. (the bus comes hourly).
If you’re traveling to Amalfi Coast on a budget, this is a great hotel to stay, even during the high-season for a reasonable price. We really enjoyed our stay there and was way better thank what we thought. Check the Prices and Availability here.
Where To Stay in Amalfi Coast on Budget
If you’re traveling to Amalfi Coast in the low season which starts form November to march, you can even find good deals in Amalfi Town and Ravello. But you have to book early, even 6-9 months in advance.
But if you’re traveling to Amalfi Coast during the high season which is mid-April to mid-October, the prices in the famous cities are very high. That’s why we tried some of the affordable hotels for those of you who want to travel to Amalfi Coast on budget. Below our 2 favorite options for budget hotels in Amalfi Coast.
1. B &B Atrani Rooms
We loved this B&B stay in Atrani Amalfi Coast. The city of Atrani is the smallest town in the Amalfi Coast and very scenic as well. But it’s also authentic and that means: you’ll enjoy the Italian village vibe with a true Italian food away from tourists. We really enjoyed our time and the post-card views.
Also this small bed and breakfast with private bathroom in each room is only 5 minutes away from the beach and the central location. The rooms are simple but very comfortable. It’s also a great option, if you’re traveling as a family with kids.
But due to its fantastic prices and reviews, it sells out fast. So we recommend to book as early as 9 months before your trip during the high Season. We’ve had the Superior Double Room in July for $250 per night. Check the availability and prices here.
Pro Tip: Atrani is next to Amalfi Town, so that you can actually walk down there in 10 minutes. There is a pedestrian tunnel along the road that you can easily walk from Atrani to Amalfi Town. And it’s so practical.
2. Hotel Villa Pandora
We loved this hotel specially because of it’s convenience. Although it’s actually a budget hotel, it has even a free shuttle service to Maiori center. Also it has a fantastic roof-top pool with a panoramic sea-view. We booked our Standard Double Room for $300/night in July.
Villa Pandora is located in Maiori. We were a bit unsure about booking a hotel there, as it was 2 towns away from Amalfi, but we were positively surprised. We will talk about Maiori town later below. Let’s first talk about this affordable hotel in Amalfi Coast.
If you’re traveling in the Amalfi Coast by bus, there’s a bus station right in front of the hotel, if you get the Sita bus from Salerno. You should know that it’s not directly on the beach, but on the hill, so you need to take the shuttle or walk down. Also we recommend to only get the Sea View rooms, as the rooms on the other side are a bit noisy. Check the Availability and Prices Here!
Where to Stay on the Amalfi Coast without the hills and stairs
Maiori
If you want to avoid the ups and downs in Amalfi Coast, but still want to enjoy the beach and the beautiful sea views, Maiori is the best city to stay on the Amalfi Coast. Because not only it has the longest sandy beach on the coast, but also a long flat seaside promenade with great hotels.
Maiori might not be as colorful as positano, but we really loved the authenticity of the buildings. Also the long walks at the lively promenade with shops and restaurants were unbeatable. You can also easily take the ferries to all the other cities. But we realized that most of the ferries run from April to October.
1. Hotel San Francesco in Maiori
If you want to stay close to the beach and away from the hilly part of Amalfi Coast, Hotel San Francesco is a great option. Because it’s right on Maiori’s promenade, so you’re very close to the restaurants and the beach.
Also if you’re looking for a hotel in Amalfi Coast to stay with kids, this is a great option. Because you’re right at the private beach, with a pool and a roof-top restaurant. This is an all-in-one hotel and we loved our stay.
Rooms might be a bit dated, but we booked the Deluxe Room with Balcony and partial sea view for $250/night. And believe me this is a rare price for hotels in Amalfi Coast. Check the availability and prices here!
Pro Tip: You need to book very early. We booked 5 months in advance, as it sells out very fast. They also have a Garage-parking available and the hotel is also pet friendly.

Although it’s rare for hotels to have a private beach in Positano, but this beautiful luxury hotel in Amalfi Coast Italy, has a great private beach area. We stayed a night at the Hotel Marincanto in Positano with a fabulous view of the sea and beautiful rooms.
Note: Since the hotel is built higher than the Coastal level, you have to walk down the stairs around 15 minutes to the beach. So the beach is not right in front of the hotel, which is very normal for Amalfi Coast. But it’s a private beach only for the hotel guests.
This Hotel also has two pools with a fantastic view of the Mediterranean sea. And I must admit that we mostly used the pool most of the times and went down just once. Check the availability and prices here!
Essential Tips Before Booking a Hotel in Amalfi Coast
Although Amalfi is always beautiful and you can easily stay anywhere, but these are some tips we wished we knew before traveling to Amalfi Coast:
- In General Amalfi coast is built in the mountains and even in the most luxurious hotels, you can’t expect very spacious rooms like in Us or Canada, as the buildings are cute and small.
- Also there’s a lot of walking up and down the hills, as there’s no other way to reach the beaches. So if this is a problem for you, we suggest to stay in Sorrento or in Mioiri. Please also read our post about Things to Do in Sorrento: Your Ultimate Travel Adventure.
- Positano and Amalfi town are expensive cities and if you’re traveling with a car, you can easily stay in other towns and travel around. Believe me you can even save up to thousands of $, by staying 30 minutes away from those cities. You still have great views in the other towns.
- Most of the good hotels sell out very fast, so we normally book our hotel room 9 months in advance. We recommend to book your hotel in the Amalfi Coast Italy at least 6-9 months in advance to get the best price.
Final Words
The Amalfi Coast is a real heaven on earth and honestly no matter in which town you stay, you can easily travel around. There are SITA buses between the towns, Ferries in most of the main towns and taxis as well.
