We really loved our stay in this beautiful resort in Garmisch with it’s rich Bavarian tradition. Hotel Zugspitze not only has a long history, but also it’s one of the best Ski resorts in Garmisch for this beautiful Alpine destination and a great place to just switch off, relax and enjoy the best of Alp views. Before we start let me explain why it’s called Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Before the winter Olympics in 1935, they were two towns. They were merged to host the Olympics. Garmisch Germany is more modern with shops and hotels, while Partenkirchen is still more traditional and charming.

Location of the Hotel Zugspitze in Garmisch: 5/5

Hotel Zugspitze is located in the stunning foothills of the Bavarian Alps and in the heart of the Garmisch Partenkirchen town. So you basically enjoy the dramatic view of the beautiful mountains, while having the privilege of being only 5 minutes away from the cutes restaurants and Cafes in the old town.

How Far is the Hotel Zugspitze from the Train Station: It’s also just 10 minutes away from the train station, so you can easily reach there by train. With an exceptionally beautiful view of the Alp, with a fresh air and the sound of nature. Best place to relax in winter and in summer.

What I loved about this hotel is definitely the view, the fantastic service and the spacious rooms with that stunning view. It really feels like waking up in heaven. So it serves perfectly as a Ski Resort in Garmisch and also as a best weekend getaway during Spring or Summer months.

The Zugspitze is only around 20-30 minutes ride with car or train away from the hotel, where you can drive up to the top of the Garmisch Alps.

Eibsee: The Garmisch Partenkirchen lake

If you’re visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you should definitely visit Eibsee (Garmisch-Partenkirchen Lake) and Zugspitze, which is one of the most beautiful mountains in Europe. Eibsee is a beautiful lagoon blue lake only 20 minutes away from the hotel in the foothills of the Zugspitze.

Hiking around the Eibsee in Garmisch, is one of our favorite activities. The hike around the lake, takes around 2-3 hours, according to your speed and your breaks. But believe you will do many breaks to admire the views.

How to get from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Best way to reach the Hotel Zugspitze is either from Munich by train, by bus or by car. You can get the train from Munich Central Station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and it’s only about an hour ride. Also you can get the Flixbus from Munich to Garmisch or just drive there with your own car.

You will arrive at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Central Station, which is only 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Actually you don’t need a taxi. How Far is Innsbruck to Garmisch Partenkirchen

If you’re visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen from Innsbruck in Austria, you can just get the direct train to Garmisch. The ride is variable and depends on the train, but the fastest ride is about an hour and half and the longest around 3 hours. Although the views are scenic and you’ll really enjoy it.

Just book your train in advance and take the train from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (main Station) directly to Garmisch. You can book all your trains in Europe on Omio to have everything in one place, we always use that and it’s quite easy as you can also you can cancel or modify your trips in one place. Check here.

What is the cheapest way to get to Garmisch from Austria: Normally the cheapest option is to get the Flixbus. Check the availability and prices here. Also from the Garmisch Central station, you can get a local bus or taxi to reach the hotel, which is only 5-10 minutes drive.

Lobby & Check in Experience: 5/5

We read in the Hotel Zugspitze Reviews that this hotel is a family-owned hotel and we love those kinds of hotels. And technically you can feel that when you enter the hotel. It starts when you land at the reception, where you are greeted warmly and welcoming. Also you’ll be escorted to your room with a hotel tour.

It was a very elaborate experience and the only note I have here is that this is not a standard experience in Germany at all. At the coziest lobby, we received a glass of sparkling wine and were checked into our room.

We met our butler who took us on a quick tour of the hotel before showing us to our beautiful Double room with Balcony and View.

Pro Tip: Also we were asked if we need the tickets to Zugspitze and Eibsee, as you can directly book them at the hotel. We highly recommend to book them early, as the capacities are very limited.

Rooms: 5/5

There are around 45 Rooms at Hotel Zugspitze Garmisch-Partenkirchen and almost all of them are with balconies offering a fantastic mountain view of the Garmisch Alps. The Slow living and nature therapy is here the topic.

The Rooms are absolutely gorgeous and very spacious with a rustic Bavarian wooden design. But still very elegant and fully renovated, offering a very comfortable stay. The wooden elements throughout gave it a very warm, Ski Resort and authentic feel while still maintaining a more modern, luxury property.

The highlight of the room is undoubtedly the view that creates a seamless connection with the Alps and is the best good morning atmosphere. I couldn’t expect anything better.

Breakfast in the Room: If you’re traveling in spring or Summer, we highly recommend to order the breakfast room service for only extra 8 Euros/Person in the room. That view is unbeatable and a pity not to enjoy it.

Room Equipments: 5/5

The bed was positioned to maximize the incredible views overlooking the Alp mountains, with floor-to-ceiling window that opened directly onto the beautiful balcony. I particularly loved the spacious bathroom with the shower that has a glass wall, so you can enjoy the beautiful view outside.

The rooms offered comfort and it was quite, although located in the middle of the town. One can immediately see that this hotel is decorated with love and attention to details.

I can talk about the comfortable king-sized bed to the thoughtful welcome amenities. While the design leans toward the rustic side , this authenticity is exactly what we were expecting in a Garmisch Ski Resort. All the rooms are overlooking the mountains, as you are surrounded by Alps, so there is no wrong view.

Service: 6/5

No seriously.. Everyone is soooo gorgeous. And after one day, you already know every single person in the hotel, and you felt like a family there. Specially the breakfast crew was such a fun-team, that we had to take the picture below.

Hotel Zugspitze has once daily housekeeping and super consistent, was generally well done and organized. They always came when we were out of the room which is great.

We communicated mostly with the staff at the information desk and they were extremely helpful and remembered our names and preferences. They want you to have a great time and you immediately realize that. Also the lobby atmosphere is such a cute country side feeling, you don’t want to leave.

Dining: Michelin suggested Restaurant

Georg Strohmeyer is the creative chef of both restaurants at the Hotel Zugspitze. The first restaurant is called Zugspitz Stadl, which is a fine-dining restaurant with fantastic wine selection. We highly recommend to book your table in advance, as it can get quite busy. You can reserve your table here.

The Hotel Zugspitze restaurant offers a la carte dining venue as well as daily changeable 4-course- menu. Also the second restaurant, is very cozy and offers a more Bavarian Style atmosphere and it’s called Joseph Naus Stubn. The Restaurants are open for lunch and dinner.

Breakfast buffet

The breakfast room is called the Wank Stube and is so cute in red and white. we loved the breakfast and we really ate a lot. Everything is from local farmers and you can even see at their website, who is delivering which product. And of course you can feel the difference.

So prepare yourself for a breakfast buffet with anything you can imagine. If I could I would give the breakfast Buffet 10 out of 5. Also it was very clean and the service was fantastic. See for yourself bellow.

The breakfast is from 7-10:30 am and you can find fresh German bread as well. The bread is from one of the oldest bakeries in Garmisch called der Baeckerei Sand. Also there are all kinds of omelette available a la minute for free included in the price.

Dinner at Zugspitz Stadl

The Hotel Zugspitze Restaurant (Stadl) is also all in red and white design, with a cozy garden for summer months facing the Alps. What I loved about it, was that everything is coming from the local farmers and butcheries in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Also the cuisine is fabulous, as it’s not only a fine-dining, but also a very creative one.

The restaurants are also open for lunch and offer also an A la Card Menu, but we mostly tried the 4-course-menu as it sounded so delicious. Also it was really delicious and fair portions.

Pro Tip: The Zugspitze Restaurant is very famous in the region, so we highly recommend to book the table for dinner in advance. Here is the link for the direct booking. If you have allergies, like me, you can tell the restaurant in advance.

The Menu

they have a selection of dishes with meat, chicken and fish. Also vegetarian dishes are fantastic. We tried the home-made Spinache Raviolli, which was fantastic. Also the salads are amazing with big portions, so that we asked a smaller portion on the second night.

We absolutely loved the fresh flavors and the variety of the menu. You can order as much or as little as you want without restrictions and they also offer phenomenal wines. The Restaurants are also open for lunch for the A La Cart Menu.

Facilities 5/5

Hotel Zugspitze has an impressive pool, which is a fantastic place to chill out after a ski day or hiking in Garmisch around the Eibsee. The pool is with beautiful Roman style paintings and offers a kind of bluish and very relaxed atmosphere.

Wellness & Spa

We loved to have our kind of night-swim in the pool. If you go there around 6pm, you can basically have the pool area for yourself, as all the others are having their dinner. It gives a fantastic option after a long Ski day to cool down and relax.

Also we quite enjoyed the Sauna are with 3 different saunas, relaxing area and showers. We actually spent a lot of time in the spa area. The pool is open till 10pm and there is also a sun terrace with Alp view and a fantastic jacuzzi.

The Fitness Center at Hotel Zugspitze Garmisch-Partenkirchen Germany offers a comprehensive workout experience with solid equipment overlooking the mountains. the gym features cardio machines, free weights, and strength training equipment. So you won’t miss any of your sessions.

Massage and Cosmetiks

One thing I really loved during my stay was taking some time to relax. There is a fantastic Massage option in the hotel, where you can book your session in advance. There are different options and you can choose from the list. You should definitely try the Body Wrap.

Style and Furniture: 5/5

We love to stay in the authentic hotels with the culture of that region and hotel Zugspitze is one of those hotels that has a real Bavarian style with a modern charm. Yes, it’s definitely rustic in its own style and the property is fully upscaled and renovated.

It’s exactly the atmosphere I love to have, when visiting the ski resort in Garmisch Partenkirchen. Also the rooms with flowers and wooden furniture offer a very picturesque view.

I loved the layout of the property and also the style of the restaurants have a kind of Bavarian-chic. Also the prices are so reasonable and more than what we’ve expected. and the staff It’s a true Alpine atmosphere with reasonable prices.

Overall Review of the Hotel Zugspitze: 10/10

I know that you can never give a 10 from 10 to a hotel, but honestly, it would be unfair, if wouldn’t do so. If I could I would give even more, but let’s stay professional. I would go back there definitely in summer.

Overall, we absolutely loved the hotel, the staff and the food. There’s nothing I would change or think of doing better and I totally understand the 9.8/10 Booking.com reviews of the Hotel Zugspitze after visiting it.

Also the old city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is just a step away from it. Eibsee Lake and Zugspitze are both within 20 minutes from the hotel and easy to reach with the train. It’s definitely one of my favorite hotels in Bavaria.

How to Book the Hotel Zugspitze

Hotel Zusptize is one of the best Hotels in Garmisch, so it sells out fast and yuou need to book it in advance during the high-season.

Parking: An underground parking is also available, and you can take the lift up to your room.

Best things to do Near Hotel Zugspitze

You should not underestimate this beautiful fairytale city in Germany-Partenkirchen. It might look small, but it is not. And there are so many things to see and to do in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Alps. Here are our favorite activities to do around Garmisch.

Explore the Garmisch Old City

Even if you just walk around, it’s a best activities to see the cute houses around. It really feels like in a movie set and you just want to stop by each house and see all the details. The Garmisch old town is so charming and truly Bavarian.

• Walk around Marienplatz in Garmisch, which is the main center of the city and explore the main shopping streets with the view of the mountains.
• You should definitely visit the beautiful church of Pfarrkirche St Martin, which is 2 minutes walk from Marienplatz. This church is breathtaking and has lots of details.
• My favorite Restaurant to go is the Mohrenplatz
• Also we loved the Kronner Cafe which is one of the finest bakeries in the town
• Take a walk in the Michael-Ende-Kurpark.

Visit Partenkirchen Old Town

You should also definitely visit Partenkirchen Old Town, which is only 20 minutes walk from the Garmisch Marienplatz and the Hotel Zugspitze. Partenkirchen is filled with Bavarian painted houses. we fell in love with this town.

• Walk around the Ludwigstrasse and just enjoy the view.
• Our favorite Restaurant there is the Gasthof Fraundorfer, which is one of the Best traditional restaurants in Partenkirchen.
• Also if you want to know more about the history of the towns and the region, visit the Werdenfels Museum.
• Also the church of the city “Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt” is definitely a must-visit.

Best Things to do in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

So let’s talk about the activities and other must-visit places here. Yes, the Alps, the Zugspitze, the Eibsee and the Partnachklamm. There’s so much to do in this area and I could even stay a month there, without getting bored, but here are some of our favorite activities around Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

There are so many hotels near Garmisch, but one of the reasons we’ve decided to stay in Hotel Zugspitze, is the location. Everything is within a walking distance and that can save so much time.

1. Hiking in Garmisch Germany

If you’re into hiking, you’re at the right place. You can take so many hikes in this region around the Alps, that we can hardly cover them all in just one post. But this time, we did an easy hike around the Eibsee (Lake), which takes around 2-3 hours, depending on how many breaks you’ll do.

Well we did a lot of breaks to enjoy the views and take as much as photos as we could. You are surrounded by highest mountains in the region, the Caribbean blue water of Eibsee and the dramatic forest around you. There are few toilettes and restaurants along the way, but take a water and something to eat with you.

2. Hiking in Partnach Gorge

Partnach Gorge (Partnachklamm) is one for the most beautiful hikes to take in Garmisch. It’s only 10 minutes ride from the hotel Zugspitze if you’re driving there, but you can also take the bus from the hotel or bike there.

It’s actually an easy hike around 30 minutes to the gorge, but if you want to take the loop trail, it will take around 45 minutes to an hour. You will go through tunnels and natural wonders. The views are breathtaking. It’s a bit cooler there, even during the summer months, so we recommend to have a jacket with you.

This is definitely the highlight of Garmisch Partenkirchen Bavarai Germany and something that we would visit again and again. You can buy the Partnach Gorge tickets either online on their official website, here is the link. Or directly at the entrance ticket office.

3. Visit the Zugspitze and the Alps

Surely you don’t want to miss one of the highest mountains in Germany and Austria with 2,962 meters Hight and breathtaking views. Zugspitze is the highest point of the Alps mountains and when you stand there, you can see parts of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and even Italy.

How to buy the tickets for Zugspitze: We bought our ticket for Zugspitze at the hotel Zugspitze for 67 Euros/person and believe me it’s so worth it. Also the the tickets per day are limited, so either buy them online in advance or at least a week before during the high-season and Ski-season.

You’ll take the train to the Eibsee and then you can take the Gondola to go up to the Zugspitze. The Gondola ride takes around 10 minutes and the views are fascinating. Check our Youtube film above to see the details of this ride. Here is the link.

4. Skiing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Surely one of the most important activities in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is skiing and it’s known for it’s winter sport. The ski season in Garmisch starts in December and it goes up to even April. We just came back beginning of May and still people were skiing there.

There is a free Ski bus stops just 2 minutes from the hotel, so you can get the bus to go directly to the main ski areas. But also the Zugspitzbahnhof is only 10 minutes walk from the Hotel Zugspitze, if you want to take the train through the mountains.

Pro Tip: If you’re planning to ski around the Christmas time, make sure you book your hotel and your ski pass early enough. Everything sells out fast during December.

5. Other Activities in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Alps

There are so many activities to do around the Alps, specially if you love doing sport. Here is a list of other activities you can do in Garmisch-Partenkirchen:

• Mountain Climbing: Hotel Zugspitze offers courses for the entry level and tours for the hikes. Ask the reception about the details.
• Golfing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: there are some of the best Golf-Clubs in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
• Paragliding in Garmisch: we personally didn’t do that, but it’s one of the most common things to do in Garmisch and I heard from other hotel guests that it’s fascinating. One of the best companies is called Fly Garmisch UG Tanden and Paragliding. It offers flights with panoramic views of the mountain. Hopefully we will do it next time.

Yesssssssss! don’t even think about skipping that part. Eibsee is one of the most beautiful lakes in Bavaria and the hike around it is truly magical.

4- What is the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Altitude

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located at an altitude of around 700-800 meters (2,300 -2,600 feet) above sea level surrounded by the Bavarian Alps. Garmisch-Partenkirchen population is around 28,000.

5- Are there any castles near Garmisch?
