Best Areas to Stay in Florence

So after exploring this Tuscan gem so many times, I’ve uncovered some of the best affordable restaurants in Florence, serving up authentic, unforgettable flavors. Here are my top picks!

1. Bistecca alla Fiorentina

While pizza and pasta are Italian must-haves, Florence truly shines with its Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florence’s famous T-bone). Yes this is not just a normal T-bone, but it’s a perfectly aged, mouthwatering steak. Surely it’s a a must-try for any meat lover.

There are many restaurants offering this dish in Florence, but there are some traditional ones that we prefer. This plate is absolutely our favorite Must-Eat in Florence.

Bistecca alla Florentin

Bistecca alla fiorentina is a Thick-cut, T-bone steak which is traditionally made from the Chianina breed of cattle, one of the oldest and most prized breeds in Italy. The meat is aged, tender and flavored.

Trust me when I say it’s flavor comes from the meat itself. On top of that it tastes unique. In Tuscany they grill it over an open flame or hot coals. Sea salt, black pepper and a drizzle of olive oil are the only flavors in this amazing dish.

But the key to perfection is how to prepare this delicate dish. The method is very rare, because the meat looks seared outside but remains juicy and red in the center. This is perfection to me as a chef. Not to forget that a true Fiorentina is never cooked past rare.

20 Best Restaurants in Florence

If you like Food Tours, like us, this is one of the best Food tours in Florence, I’ve ever done. It’s so much fun and you’ll see the best local restaurants in Florence. If you have questions let me know.

A proper Bistecca alla Fiorentina is massive! And trust me when I say 1 is enough for 2 person. Therefore we always order just one, which is typically at least 1-2 kg (2-4lbs) and about 2-3 inches thick. So it’s meant to be shared and we order normally just 1 for 2 of us.
