Munich is a city full of cultural attractions, breathtaking nature and additionally the Bavarian Culture itself is so magnificent. That’s why there are so many things to do in Munich and here I’ll show you the top things to do in Munich Germany by a local.

I lived in Munich more than 25 years, therefore I’ll show you all the local restaurants, hidden gems as well tips and tricks for your Munich visit. Also we’ll cover the best hotels in Munich as well as the Day Trips from Munich you need to book.

We wrote this guide mostly for the first-time traveler to Munich and is quite long. So if you’re not a first-time visitor in Munich, feel free to choose the section of your interest from the table of contents below. Also all the pictures are taken by us.

5 Tips before booking Your Trip to Munich

Before you book your trip, there are some tips for your Munich trip that will make your visit more enjoyable.

1. How long to stay in Munich?

Although Munich might not look like a huge city, but it’s the third biggest city in Germany and there is a lot to see. So I suggest to stay at least 3 days in Munich, so that you can see the main attractions. 2. Is Munich Walkable?

Yes, very walkable, specially the downtown Munich, which is the heart of the city is perfectly walkable. Most of the attractions are located near Marienplatz, so that you can walk from one to another.

Also Munich offers a fantastic public transport system, and you basically don’t need a car in the city or even for the day-trips at all. The main train Station in Munich is called Hauptbahnhof and is in the city.

Pro Tip: Although the public transport system in Munich is fantastic, but it might be a bit expensive, so I do recommend to get the Munich Card. With the Munich City Card, the public transport is free and you can also get discount on many attractions. Here is the link for Online booking.

3. Visit Neuschwanstein Castle

Munich is home to many attractions and castles. If you only stay for 3 days, surely you can’t visit them al. But Neuschwanstein castle, which is the castle inspired by Disney is only about an hour from Munich. Also it’s a beautiful trail and nature, so that you don’t want to miss!

You can either go by train or I would suggest to get a tour from Munich to Neuschwanstein. It’s around $100, but totally worth it and you can also visit the Linderhof Castle which is another beautiful castle in Bavaria. Check our favorite Tour here.

4. Best Time to Travel to Munich

Although Munich is always beautiful to my eyes, but if you love to see the city lively, I recommend to travel from May till October and then in December (untill 23rd of December) for the Christmas Markets.

As you know, Germany is known for it’s beautiful Christmas markets and Munich has one of the best ones. The city will be full of small, Bavarian stalls offering different traditional Bavarian dishes and specialties.

5. Sundays the shops are closed in Germany

Another very important things to know is that in Munich, all the shops are closed on Sundays including grocery shops and even some museums. But no worries, at Hauptbahnhof (main Station) there are grocery shops for primary needs.

Also some museums are working half day or can be closed. So consider that, before you book your trip. But Sundays are perfect for day-trips or just walking in the city and visiting some of the churches.

Before we start, for a better orientation, here is the Map of Munich with hotels and attractions. As you can see, most of the attractions are located in the city. The main square of the city is called Marienplatz and everything is almost within the 30 minutes walk or ride from it.

In Munich there are 4 different types of public transportation and you can basically use your Munich Pass Card for all of them.

• S-Bahn is the fast train that connects cities with the suburbs and airport.
• U-Bahn is the underground metro within the city.
• Strassenbahn is the tram actually and it’s mostly in the downtown of Munich.
• Also you can find regional buses that ride through the city.

And now let’s start with the top things to do in Munich and we’ll start at the city center, Marienplatz.

1. Munich Old Town: Marienplatz

This should be your start point for your walking tour. Marienplatz is the heart of the Munich city and the New Town Hall is stunning. Also the Glockenspiel Munich is definitely a must-visit. Take your time to enjoy the square as it is always lively and the architecture of the Rathaus (the new Town Hall) is full of details.

Also walk inside the courtyard and explore it from there as well. Many visitors don’t know that they can also visit the tower of the building with the best view of the city. But I’ll tell you now what you can exactly do at Marienplatz.

Watch the Glockenspiel Munich at the right time

One of the best things to see in Marienplatz is to watch the Glockenspiel. Because even as someone who lived there over 20 years, I still stop there each time to watch this charming show. . The figures will dance at the top of the tower and the music plays.

When is the Glockenspiel playing? You can watch this show day at 11 AM and 12 PM (plus 5 PM in the summer). You will see everyone staying at the Marienplatz and looking up at the tower. The Glockenspiel is located on the facade of the New Town Hall .

Also it shows 2 historical Bavarian events with 32 life-sized figures. The first story is about the marriage of Duke Wilhelm V to Renata of Lorraine and the second one is called “Schäfflertanz” which is a symbol of Munich’s resilience after the plague in the 16th century.

Tip: Arrive early because the Glockenspiel is only around 7 minutes and there are so many people there. The Farther you are, the better your views.

Visit the Tower of the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus)

I am sure you’ll love this neo-Gothic architecture from the outside, but don’t forget to take a walk inside the new Town Hall (Rathaus) of Munich which is an experience in itself. Here is how to do it:

• So take the elevator to the top of the tower for one of the best views in Munich. The elevator is right at the main entrance on the left side. You’ll love it and here is their official page if you want to book the tickets in advance. It costs around 7 Euros. You can buy the ticket in advance.

Visit the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus)

Standing at the eastern side of Marienplatz, the Old Town Hall is a beautiful medieval building that dates back to the 14th century. Though it has been rebuilt several times, it retains its old-world charm and it’s one of the most interesting Museums to see in Munich.

Furthermore you’ll find the Toy Museum (Spielzeugmuseum) inside, which showcases an impressive collection of antique toys from around the world, including teddy bears, dolls, and model trains.

One of the most beautiful views in Munich, is the view of the New Rathaus and unfortunately we don’t have so many options. But the best option is definitley the Glockenspiel Restaurant.

This modern restaurant is one of the oldest in the town and a hidden gem, that locals love it. It’s located in front of the Rathaus and it offers a diverse menu of traditional Bavarian dishes as well as modern cuisine.

Although the entrance is a bit hidden. but you can ask any local, and they’ll show you. It is a small pathway, right before the Sport check on Marienplatz, which offers you the best view to sit by the window and see the best view of Rathaus. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Munich.

2. English Garden

There are so many things to see in English Garden Munich and although I lived in Munich so long, but I can never get enough form Englischer Garten. This is one of the biggest parks in Europe that is directly in the city in the area called Schwabing.

And although Schwabing one of the busiest parts of the city, this Garden is a perfect place to relax and to do sport activities like biking. Beside that you can also enjoy the beautiful view of the lake with a fresh beer at the different beer Gardens there.

Think of it as Munich’s answer to Central Park, but with a more European touch and with beer gardens, river surfers, and endless paths for wandering.

How Big is the Englischer Garten

The Englischer Garten is one of the most beautiful places in Munich that you do not want to miss. The Size of Englischer Garten is around 900 acres in the heart of Munich. It’s even bigger than New York’s Central Park! So it’s definitely one of Munich’s top 10 tourist attractions.

Things to see in English Garden Munich

1. The Eisbach: Firstly the surfers ride an artificial wave on the Isar River almost in any weather. Yes, you read that right—surfing in Munich! It’s mesmerizing to watch, and the energy of the crowd cheering on the surfers makes it an unforgettable experience.
2. The Chinese Tower Beer Garden: Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) beer garden is one of the best attractions in the middle of the park. It’s one of Munich’s oldest and largest beer gardens. You can enjoy a Beer with a German Sausage and live Bavarian Music.
3. Monopteros: It’s the picture you see above and it’s the best view point at Englischer Garten. Also this Greek-Style temple on the hill is definitely an instagrammable spot in the park. I love doing Sunset photography there.

How to Reach English Garden?

Munich is a walkable city and you can reach English Garden by walk from Marienplatz in around 20-30 min.

By Metro, you can take the U3/U6 towards Münchener Freiheit and get out at Gisela Strasse or Universität. It’s just 10 min walk from the English Garden.

What to eat at English Garden

One of my favorite things about the Englischer Garten is that you can find fantastic restaurants there with great views for every budget. Also it’s home to one of the best restaurants in Munich called Seehaus, where you can taste the true Bavarian food with a fantastic lake view.

As locals we love this restaurant and we often go to Englischer Garten Beer Garden as well, if we just want to have a beer with a sausage. You can spend the whole day picnicking by the lake, go for a jog along its scenic trails, or simply find a quiet bench. So you have many choices to take.

Best Restaurants that you don’t want to miss while visiting Englischer Garten:

• The Seehaus, which is by a small lake with a nice view and you can choose to have a fine dining option or the traditional Bavarian food.
• Chinesischer Turm Biergarten which has a beautiful architecture and often there is a live band playing Bavarian Music there

3. Nymphenburg Palace

Step into royalty at Nymphenburg Palace, a Baroque masterpiece surrounded by magnificent gardens. You’ll need a full day to explore the palace, the museums, the gardens and etc. So here is your full guide to explore this beautiful place in Munich:

If there’s one place in Munich that feels straight out of a storybook, then it’s Nymphenburg Palace. This grand Baroque palace, was once a summer retreat for Bavarian royalty and was built in 1664 as a gift from Elector Ferdinand Maria to his wife. I remember my first time seeing it— It was love at first sight. This is one of the best things to do in Munich.

Things to see at Nymphenburg

1. The Grand Hall (Steinerner Saal) – First it comes the heart of the palace with the golden details which feels like stepping into a royal ball. Additionally it’s best spot for Photography.
2. The Gardens – Nymphenburg’s park is massive—over 490 acres! You can walk, run, or even have a tea or coffee in the tea house. Autumn here is pure magic!
3. Amalienburg Pavilion – This little hunting lodge is one of the most beautiful spots in the palace grounds. Its delicate Rococo interiors, especially the blue-and-white mirrored hall, make it feel like a royal jewel box. It’s not always open to visitors, so I do recommend check the website, if you want to visit it.
4. The Palm House – If you need a warm escape in winter, the historic Palm House is like a tropical getaway. With exotic plants and fragrant flowers, it’s a little paradise tucked within the palace grounds.
5. The Carriage Museum & Porcelain Collection – Want to see how royalty traveled in style? The Marstallmuseum showcases extravagant carriages that once carried Bavarian kings and queens. And if you love delicate art, the Nymphenburg Porcelain Museum is a must.

Pro Tip: To maximize your time, take an early train or book a day trip tour to Neuschwanstein Castle. I normally rent a car and drive there to enjoy the view or just take a tour with pick-up in Munich. For both options, please see my favorite tours and rental cars.

How to get to Nymphenburger Palace from Marienplatz:

I would suggest these two ways (around 20 minutes ride):

1. S-Bahn (suburban railway) to “Laim”, then bus to “Schloss Nymphenburg”
2. U-Bahn (underground) to “Rotkreuzplatz”, then tram to “Schloss Nymphenburg”

Nymphenburg Palace and Carriage Museum:

• 01.04. to 15.10.: daily 9 am to 6 pm
• 16.10. to 31.03.: daily 10 am to 4 pm

Park Palaces (Amalienburg, Badenburg, Pagodenburg, Magdalenenklause):

4. Viktualienmarkt

If you are a foodie person like me, you can’t miss this maket because nowhere else you can find such a variety of bavarian specialties. which is located in the heart of the city between Isartor and Marienplatz. You’ll love the vibe there. Viktualienmarkt is Munich’s famous open-air market. No matter if you’re there in winter or Summer, it’s always lively and worth to take a look at it.

What to taste:

Make sure you try some of the following delicacies, before you leave Munich. Those are my favorites:

1. Metzgerei Schabitz
   A traditional Leberkässemmel, a warm meatloaf sandwich that’s a local favorite.
2. Café Frischhut
   You’ll love this freshly made Bavarian pastries like Auszogne (fried dough) and Krapfen (jam-filled doughnuts)
3. Honighäusl
   Discover a variety of local and international honeys, perfect for a sweet souvenir.
4. Der Verrückte Eismacher
   Experience unique ice cream flavors, including unconventional options like beer or sausage.
5. Münchner Suppenküche
   Warm up with hearty, seasonal soups and stews, offering a taste of home-style Bavarian cooking.

There are lots of other stalls but these are my favorite ones at Viktualienmarkt, making it a must-visit for any food enthusiast. This is one of the best things to do in Munich.

Tip: I do recommend to book a culinary tour for Viktualienmarkt, There are many options and in a tour, you’ll also hear about the history of the viktualienmarkt. I took the tour and I quite enjoyed it. Here is a link.

5. Heilig-Geist-Church

Another historical place on the top of my list of things to do in Munich, is this beautiful church. If you’re visiting Viktualienmarkt, I do recommend to visit the Heilig-Geist-Church too. This church is the soul of Viktualienmarkt. This white beauty is a must-visit on your list.

You know those places that you stumble upon by accident but end up loving? That’s exactly how I felt when I first walked into Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Munich. It’s right next to Viktualienmarkt, and from the outside, it looks pretty simple. But the moment you step inside—wow! It’s like entering another world.

This church has been around since the 1300s, but over the years, it got a serious Baroque makeover. And let me tell you, they didn’t hold back! The ceiling frescoes are absolutely stunning, with soft pastel colors and scenes that seem to float above you. The altar is golden and grand, but not overwhelming—it just feels peaceful.

What I love most is that it’s never too crowded. While everyone is outside grabbing pretzels and beer at Viktualienmarkt, this little gem offers a quiet escape. I like to just sit there for a few minutes, soaking in the history and beauty.

6. Alte Peter: the best view in Munich

If there’s one place in Munich that I’ll always recommend, it’s Alte Peter (St. Peter’s Church). Not only is it the oldest church in the city, but it also has the best panoramic view—if you’re willing to climb for it!

Right next to Marienplatz, Alte Peter has been standing tall since the 12th century. It’s been through fires, bombings, and countless renovations, but somehow, it still stands strong. Inside, you’ll find beautiful frescoes, golden altars, and an impressive Gothic atmosphere—but let’s be real, most people come here for the view.

And here’s the catch: you have to climb 300+ steps to get there. Yep, it’s a workout. The staircase is narrow and steep, but trust me, when you reach the top, it’s 100% worth it. From up there, you get an insane view of Munich, with Marienplatz, the Frauenkirche, and even the Alps on a clear day. Below is the Picture we made at the top.

7. Frauenkirche, Cathedral of our Lady

If you’ve ever seen a photo of Munich, chances are you’ve seen the Frauenkirche—those two massive towers with the green domes are impossible to miss! This isn’t just any church; it’s one of the most famous landmarks in the city and a must-see when you’re in town.

Built in the 15th century, the Cathedral of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) is Munich’s largest church, and it has a pretty fascinating history. Because of the fact that It survived World War II bombings and it has legends about the Devil’s footprint inside (yes, really!), and last but not least it is the final resting place of Bavarian kings.

Inside, it’s surprisingly simple and peaceful, with high ceilings and a bright, airy feel. But the real magic? Climbing one of the towers! Once you’re up there, you get one of the best views in Munich, stretching all the way to the Alps on a clear day.

Plus, you can’t say you’ve truly seen Munich until you’ve stood in its most famous church!

8. Residenz Munich & Hofgarten

If you want to step into the world of Bavarian kings and dukes, then Munich Residenz is the perfect place. Right in the heart of the city, this massive palace complex was home to the Wittelsbach dynasty for centuries. Additionally today, it’s one of the largest city palaces in Europe, and you can spend hours exploring its lavish halls, breathtaking rooms, and priceless treasures.

Although the building is very historical, but many people don’t know that they can actually visit the museum itself and it’s such a beautiful place. Even most of the locals don’t know that. But I recommend it as one of the top things to do in Munich, specially because the rooms are so beautiful and you can enjoy walking in the Garden and enjoying the view.

Highlights:

1. Explore the Grand Halls of the Residenz

Start your visit inside the Munich Residenz, once home to Bavarian kings. Must-sees include:

• The Antiquarium – A stunning Renaissance hall with painted ceilings.
• The Treasury – Home to royal jewels and crowns.
• Cuvilliés Theatre – An extravagant red-and-gold Baroque theater.

It’s easy to spend a couple of hours here, so take your time!

2. Step into Hofgarten for a Break

Secondly, after the grandeur of the palace, head to Hofgarten, the elegant 17th-century garden right behind it. Here’s what to do:

9. Odeonsplatz & Leopoldstrasse

Next to the Hofgarten begins the beautiful and most iconic street in Munich, called Leopoldstrasse. It’s not only rich of historical buildings and monuments, but also has the most lively night life with fantastic restaurants and shops. So in general! if you want to have fun then you can just walk along this street and do restaurant hopping. That’s what we are doing during the summer as locals and believe me this is one of the best things to do in Munich.

Odeonsplatz: Munich’s Historic Heart

A Brief History: Odeonsplatz is one of Munich’s most famous squares, named after the Odeon Concert Hall that once stood there. It played a major role in Bavarian history, from royal parades to political events, although today, it’s a stunning mix of Italian-inspired architecture and bustling city life.

Furthermore I do suggest to stay in the middle of the square and just enjoy the beauty of the endless view of Leopoldstrasse. That’s the best spot for photography. In summer there are different concerts. For more information please check this link

Leopoldstraße: Munich’s Trendy & Cultural Hub

Leopoldstraße is an extension of Ludwigstraße and is known as Munich’s Champs-Élysées. It’s a lively street filled with historic landmarks, trendy restaurants, and local boutiques. It runs through Schwabing, Munich’s bohemian and artistic district, once home to famous writers and painters.

What to See & Do: Starting from Odeonzplatz, you can take a nice walk towards Muenchener Freiheit. On your right side the first beautiful building is called Stabi (Stadtbibliothek), I do recommend to take a look at the building from inside. The stairs and the architecture are fascinating.

Walking along the Leopoldstrasse

Before you reach the Siegestor (victory Gate), you will pass the buidlings behind 2 fountains on both sides of the Leopoldstrasse. Those squares are called: Geschwister-Scholl-Platz and it has an amazing history behind it. I’ll leave this link, if you’re interested to know more.

We love to sit under the fountains in summer and enjoy the view of the historical university building on the other side. If you have time, you can also take a walk in the university. The architecture is stunning.

Siegestor

After passing the university district, you’ll reach the iconic gate of Siegestor (victory Gate). Here is where the night life and the whole fun begins down till you reach Münchner Freiheit – A lively square full of street musicians, art galleries, and one of Munich’s best Christmas markets in winter.

Where to Eat on Leopoldstraße:

• Café Münchner Freiheit – A local favorite for coffee and breakfast with a relaxed, artsy vibe. It’s one of the eldest Patisseries in Munich.
• Vapiano – If you’re craving Italian, this popular spot offers freshly made pasta and pizzas. It’s always very busy, so better to reserve.
• Café Reitschule – A hidden gem right next to the Englischer Garten, serving fantastic brunch and coffee with views of horseback riders. I do recommend to see this unique Cafe. It’s better if you reserve, as it’s always busy there.
• Alter Simpl – A legendary pub once frequented by Munich’s bohemian artists, perfect for beer and classic German comfort food. The traditional bavarian architecture and the food is fantastic.
• Seehaus im Englischen Garten – Not technically on Leopoldstraße, but worth the short walk into the park for stunning lake views and traditional Bavarian dishes.
• Most of the above mentioned restaurants are not directly on the Leopoldstrasse and you need to walk in a side street. Most of the restaurants on the Leopoldstrasse are mostly touristic, so would rather suggest these instead.

Final Tip for Exploring Odeonsplatz & Leopoldstraße as one of the best things to do in Munich:

Getting Around: Both areas are super walkable, but you can take the U-Bahn (U3/U6 to Odeonsplatz or Giselastraße) for quick access.

10. Olympia Park: A Hidden Gem

I lived in Munich for years, and Olympiapark was always my go-to spot for a mix of nature, events, and fun. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or looking for something new to do, here’s how to get there and what to explore. And visiting Olympia park s one of the best things to do it Munich.

How to Get There

• By U-Bahn – Take the U3 to Olympiazentrum; it’s about 10 minutes from Marienplatz.
• By Tram or Bus – Several lines stop near the park, making it easily accessible.
• By Bike or Walking – If you’re staying in Schwabing or Maxvorstadt, a scenic walk or bike ride is a great option.

If there’s one place in Munich where the past, present, and future of automotive innovation collide, it’s BMW Welt and the BMW Museum, which is right next to Olympia Park. I would suggest you combine those for a trip, but wear comfi shoes as you’ll be walking a lot.

Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast, a lover of sleek design, or just someone who appreciates fine German engineering, this is a stop you won’t want to miss. And trust me, after living in Munich for years, I can say that visiting this place never gets old!

BMW Welt isn’t just a showroom, but it’s an experience that you’ll love. Since it’s located right next to the famous Olympic Park, I do recommend to visit them together. Furthermore this futuristic glass-and-steel structure feels like something straight out of a sci-fi movie and the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by the latest BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce models, all polished to perfection.

One of my favorite things about BMW Welt? For example you can actually sit inside some of the models and get a feel for the luxurious interiors. Consequently if you’re lucky, you might even catch a live vehicle delivery—BMW fans from all over the world pick up their new cars here, making it a special moment to witness.

Furthermore there are interactive exhibits that showcase BMW’s latest technology, from electric mobility to self-driving innovations. It’s not just about looking at cars—it’s about seeing where the future of driving is headed.

Next Stop: BMW Museum – A Ride Through History

After getting a glimpse of the future, it’s time to step back in time at the BMW Museum, just across the street. Housed in a sleek, round building, the museum takes you through over 100 years of BMW history, from its beginnings in aviation to the world-renowned automobile brand it is today.

Walking through the museum feels like a journey. You start with BMW’s early motorcycles and classic cars, then move through the decades of innovation, from legendary race cars to futuristic concept vehicles.

I do recommend to book the tours from BMW Welt and Museum itself. I tried couple of guided tours outside but couldn’t find one better than theirs. For Group Tours you really need to book in advance specially during the summer time.

Even if you don’t like beer, this place is not just about that. It’s about knowing the Bavarian culture, Music and traditions and enjoy the local cuisine. Even as local we love to go there, specially the second floor, where you can all sit on one big table to dine and have fun. It is located in the adorable Platzl square,

Before stepping into the world-famous Hofbräuhaus, take a moment to explore Platzl, the charming square that surrounds it. With its cobblestone streets, colorful Bavarian-style buildings, and cozy cafés, it feels like a fairytale tucked away in the middle of the city. Exploring this hidden gem is one of the best things to do in Munich.

Platzl is home to some of Munich’s best restaurants and bars, but Hofbräuhaus is undoubtedly the main attraction. However, don’t rush inside just yet—wander around, snap some pictures (for your social media), and soak up the relaxed, authentic Bavarian atmosphere. If you’re looking for a quieter drink before diving into the Hofbräuhaus energy, places like Ayinger am Platzl offer excellent beer and you don’t want to miss the schnitzel there.

Although originally served as the royal brewery of Bavaria. Today, it’s one of the most famous beer halls in the world and attracting millions of visitors each year. It’s not just about the beer, but it’s also about the unforgettable atmosphere.

Why You Should Visit Hofbräuhaus

1. The Beer – It’s unbelievable but Hofbräuhaus still serves traditional Bavarian beer, which is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law) from 1516. Whether you go for a Hofbräu Original, Dunkel (dark beer), or the seasonal Maibock, you’re guaranteed a refreshing, authentic experience.
2. The Atmosphere – Expect long communal tables, lively conversations, and the sound of traditional Bavarian music filling the air. The in-house oompah band plays daily. Although the atmosphere is fantastic and cozy, but do expect it to be loud.
3. The Food – No beer hall visit is complete without classic Bavarian food. Therefore I do recommend you to order a plate of Schweinshaxe (roasted pork knuckle), Weißwurst (white sausages with sweet mustard), or a giant, fresh-baked pretzel—all perfect for pairing with your beer.
4. The History – The building itself is a piece of history. Over the centuries, it has hosted everyone from kings to regular beer lovers. Even Mozart and Lenin reportedly drank here!
5. The Beer Garden – If you prefer fresh air, the outdoor beer garden offers the same great experience but with a bit more space and sunshine (when the weather allows).

Today, it’s a place where history, art, and open space meet, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to soak in Munich’s beauty. In Addition In summer you see everyone sitting and relaxing on the area around it and just enjoy this beautiful view.

What to See at Königsplatz

1. Glyptothek – This stunning museum was built by Ludwig I himself and houses an impressive collection of Greek and Roman sculptures. The architecture alone is a masterpiece, but stepping inside is like walking through an ancient gallery of gods and heroes.
2. Staatliche Antikensammlungen (State Collections of Antiquities) – If you love ancient art, this museum is for you, because It’s filled with exquisite pottery, jewelry, and artifacts from Greek, Roman, and Etruscan civilizations.
3. Propyläen – This grand gate is an iconic landmark of Königsplatz and although originally was built as a symbol of Bavaria’s strength, it now stands as a perfect backdrop for photos and an entrance to the historic square.
4. NS Documentation Center – While Königsplatz is a place of beauty, it also carries a dark history from the Nazi era. This museum serves as a reminder of that past, offering insight into Munich’s role in World War II and the importance of remembrance.

Where to Eat Near Königsplatz

After exploring the grandeur of Königsplatz, you’ll probably want to relax and enjoy some great food. There are many options in that area, but my favorites are defenitely:

• Augustiner Keller – Firstly I would try this restaurant, as it’s an iconic historical place and If you want a more traditional Bavarian experience, head to this iconic beer garden for pretzels, sausages, fresh beer, which is located on stieglemaierplatz and you can reach in 10 minutes walk.
• Brenner Grill – secondly I would suggest the Brenner Grill restaurant, as it’s located near the square, this trendy spot serves Mediterranean dishes with a great atmosphere and top-notch service and you’re just some steps away. And believe me eating a grilled platter there is one of the best things to do in Munich.

14. Deutsches Museum: From Salt Mines to the Stars!

There are many museums in Munich. But if you have time to visit one of the museums, I do suggest to visit Detusches Museum, as it’s one a kind science collection and believe me it is so exciting and not boring at all.

What Not to Miss

Deutsches Museum is big, so might not be able to see all the departments, but I do recommend the following, if you don’t have a full day:

• Historic aircraft and space exploration – See early flying machines and space technology up close.
• The physics experiments – Hands-on demonstrations that make science fun for everyone.
• The marine navigation section – Climb aboard real submarines and boats, that’s one my favorites.
• The high-voltage lab – Watch lightning bolts created indoors!

Foodie Tips:

Although there are many options close to the museum, there are 2 great restaurants close to Detusches Museum, that are hidden gems of Munich and locals really like them:

Furthermore if you’re visiting Munich in summer, you can just cross the street and dine in the gardens of the Volksbad restaurant, which is a historical swimming pool and spa in Munich.

15. Maximilianstrasse (Maximilian street): A Paradise for Shoppers

Built in the 19th century under King Maximilian II, the street blends neo-Gothic and Renaissance styles. It’s home to top fashion houses like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior, making it a hotspot for fashion lovers. Even if shopping isn’t on your agenda, a stroll here is worth it.

For example some of those Landmarks include the Bavarian State Opera at the end of the street and the Maximilianeum, adding a touch of culture to this luxury district.

Also don’t forget that to go shopping in that are and on the Theatiner Strasse is one of the best things to do in Munich. Then We love to enjoy the chic atmosphere and beautiful cozy cafes on that street

Where to Eat Nearby

Although you can find many top culinary restaurants in this street, where you might see one or another famous face, but these restaurants are my favorites. So you can treat yourself to an amazing meal at one of these top spots after shopping:

• Brenner Grill – A stylish steakhouse with Mediterranean flavors. Furthermore I love this restaurant for it’s ambience and the food.
• Schumann’s Bar – A classic cocktail bar with a sophisticated vibe, which also gives you a luxury treatment feeling.

Getting Around & The Best Time to Visit Munich

Munich is an incredibly easy city to navigate, thanks to its efficient public transportation system. The MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund) operates a well-connected network of U-Bahn (subway), S-Bahn (commuter trains), trams, and buses, making it simple to get around without a car. If you’re staying for a few days, consider getting a Munich CityTourCard or a Deutschland Ticket for unlimited travel within the city and beyond. Biking is also a great way to explore, as Munich is very bike-friendly with designated cycling paths.

Furthermore Munich is a bike-friendly city and you will see bikers all around the city, all season long. For those who like to see the city on bike, I do suggest a bike-tour that it takes around 3 hours and if you don’t have a lot of time, that’s the best way to see all the historical places. The best time to visit depends on what kind of experience you want!

• Spring (April – June) – Pleasant temperatures, blooming gardens, and fewer crowds make it a perfect time to explore. Not to mention that the peach trees are stunning when they start to bloom.
• Summer (July – August) – Warm weather and lively beer gardens create a fantastic atmosphere, but expect more tourists.
• Fall (September – October) – If you want to experience Oktoberfest, this is the time to go! Because Crisp air, autumn colors, and the world’s biggest beer festival make it an unforgettable season.
• Winter (November – February) – Magical Christmas markets, festive lights, and cozy cafés make Munich a winter wonderland, though it can be chilly.
